Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

As Californians, J and I can eat Mexican food any day of the week. Something as simple as a little soft taco with a splash of fresh homemade hot salsa can be so satisfying. We noticed that N College Ave has several Mexican markets and set out to fill our craving for Mexican food. Noticing a sign that says delicious tortas, we turned into Las Delicias. Next to their market is a little food trailer operated by one busy woman. A simple menu displays prices and meat options. We ordered an al pastor torta along with some pastor and carne asada tacos to share. The pastor has tiny pieces of pineapple incorporated into it, which is authentic from what I have been told, though I think it varies by region and family recipes as this was my first time seeing pineapple in it. The pastor marinade has a nice balance of salt, spices, and sweetness from the pineapple. The torta was prepared using a typical Mexican bolillo roll slathered with homemade pinto bean spread, and topped with green lettuce and sliced tomato. Served on double miniature tortillas, the tacos were simply topped with meat, diced onion, and cilantro. I wish they put fresh salsa on it, which surprisingly, they do not offer at the cart. However, they do have a variety of bottled hot sauces which customers are welcome to use. Our carne asada taco turned out to be tongue due to a mix up. We like tongue tacos but are picky about how the tongue is prepared, so we don't usually order it unless we can see it being made. While the tongue was well-scraped, the chunky bits combined with the toughness made the taco less enjoyable. It could have used a bit of seasoning as well. So far, we both like the torta and the pastor, and definitely, the prices. The torta is $5, and the taco between $1-1.50 depending on your meat option. Service was friendly but slow since it's a one-person operation. The cook prepares one order at a time, so if you are 5th in line, the wait may be a while. Be patient if you plan to come here.
